From 1980 to 2001 distribution costs in the US declined from 16.2% to 9.5% of Gross Domestic Product. The Flat Glass Industry has not experienced such savings. Some reasons stem from the nature of the float glass production process but many of the reasons are self inflicted.

The purpose of this section is to introduce the Flat Glass Logistics Council to some of the efforts that are being taken by other industries that have resulted in large savings. Stated another way the education group will introduce the Flat Glass Industry to Supply Chain concepts as taught in academia.
